Félix Isasi Mestre, one of the legends of Cuban baseball and member of the famous three musketeers who led the Henequeneros team to the championship in 1970, passed away today at 78 years old.

His body was laid in state in the Hall of Fame at Palmar de Junco stadium, where he was honored for the mark he left throughout his career in domestic championships wearing his province's uniform and in international tournaments with Team Cuba.

A cunning player, architect of the so-called hidden ball play, he was a swift base runner considered one of the best base stealers in the National Series, and stood out for his finesse and timely offense in tense moments of games.

Together with Wilfredo Sánchez and Rigoberto Rosique he formed the famous trio of Musketeers, which despite the passage of time continues to be remembered by fans of that sport.

He debuted in the National Series at only 17 years old in 1963 with the Occidentales team and later played with Henequeneros, Centrales, and Matanzas.

In 18 campaigns he averaged .293 at the plate, connected 1,142 hits, including 181 doubles, 17 triples and 45 home runs, in addition to driving in 445 runs and scoring 571.

With the national team he participated in 11 international events and displayed a batting average of .336.
