Cuban Actress Isabel Moreno Passed Away in Miami

Cuban actress Isabel Moreno passed away in Miami this past weekend at the age of 82, according to a Facebook page dedicated to the artist.

The cause of Moreno's death, recognized for her work both inside and outside of Cuba, remains unknown.

Her fans' profile on the social network wished her "a good journey full of peace" and assured that "your absence will be difficult to overcome."

For his part, popular Cuban actor Héctor Noas lamented the actress's passing through an emotional message on his Facebook profile.

"I just found out, through my friend Gilda Santana, about the death of Isabel Moreno, who has undoubtedly been one of the greatest Cuban actresses. Watching her on stage was a masterclass in acting. Possessor of an imposing physique and a wonderful voice. What a sad loss, dear Isa!", wrote Noas.

He also assured that "for those who admired you, your legacy remains in cinema, especially in that character in 'La Bella del Alhambra', which you yourself built with the complicity of your dear Enrique. It was a gift you gave each other!"

Héctor Noas insisted that for his theater colleagues in Cuba there remain "a group of certainly legendary anecdotes and for me, affection, admiration, respect and your smile."

"May you have a journey of light and existence, may you be received in another dimension as you deserve, because you have been among the greats. I love you!", concluded Noas's text on Facebook.

Moreno's artistic career on stage began as part of the theater group directed by Raquel Revuelta, where she shined in pieces such as "Bodas de Sangre", "Bernarda" or "A Streetcar Named Desire".

With her talent she also reached film and television on the island, where she will be remembered for films such as "La bella del Alhambra", alongside Beatriz Valdés, "I Am Cuba", "Lucia" and "A Man of Success".

For some years she also dedicated herself to teaching, giving acting classes at the National School of Art and at the Superior Institute of Art of Cuba.

In 1987 she received recognition from the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba as best leading actress for the play "And Who's Going to Have Coffee?".

Additionally, the Association of Entertainment Chroniclers of New York in its 53rd edition awarded her the Extraordinary ACE Prize for Distinction and Merit.

In the early 1990s, Isabel Moreno went into exile in Venezuela until she decided to settle in the U.S. in 2001, where she continued her career in theater, film and television.

Among her most recent performances on the small screen are materials such as "Betty en NY" (2019), "La suerte de Loli" (2021) and "La mujer de mi vida" (2022).

Precisely her work in "Betty en NY", a version of "Betty La Fea", made her worthy of another recognition from ACE, awarding her in 2020 the Prize for best female television supporting actress.

Born in Havana and married to fellow actor Gaspar González, Moreno also worked with Cuban director Lilo Vilaplana on the film "Plantados".

Isabel had a long career in entertainment, taking her first steps in acting in the 1960s, in her native country.

With an extensive career in theater, the Cuban newspaper described her as "an actress with her own shine, with talent that she expressed with firm steps, and who made the audience know that she could contribute something more."

She performed in several telenovelas, with La séptima familia being her foray into television.

She worked in various productions in Venezuela, participating in successful melodramas such as Amantes de luna llena and Más que amor, frenesí; however, in 2002 she decided to move to the United States, where she ventured into Telemundo telenovelas.

Among the most notable productions in which she acted, Gata Salvaje (2002-2003) stands out, a successful melodrama starring Marlene Favela and Mario Cimarro.

Additionally, among her latest projects are the telenovelas Betty en NY (2019), an adaptation of the classic Colombian Yo soy Betty, la fea (1999).

At this time, various Cuban media outlets have spoken out about her passing.

On Facebook, Cuban actor Héctor Noás posted a message to say goodbye to his friend and work colleague.

"Possessor of an imposing physique and a wonderful voice. What a sad loss, dear Isa, for those who admire you, your legacy remains in cinema… For your theater colleagues in Cuba, a group of certainly legendary anecdotes and for me, affection, admiration, respect and your smile. May you have a journey of light and existence, may you be received in another dimension as you deserve, because you have been among the greats", he stated in a message shared by Las Estrellas.
