The news of the death of prominent Cuban actress Broselianda Hernández on November 18th has caused shock among all Cubans.
According to several press outlets, the actress's body was found at dawn on a Miami Beach, in the state of Florida, where the prominent Cuban artist had resided for some time. At this time, the causes of death are unknown, authorities are investigating the causes, it was learned that the body was found naked and without signs of violence.
Broselianda's death at 56 years of age leaves an irreparable mark on Cuban culture. A graduate with a Gold Title in 1987 from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), she was a student of teachers of the caliber of Vicente Revuelta, Isabel Moreno, Miriam Lezcano, and many other valuable instructors, from whom she learned to later bring those experiences to theater, cinema, and television.
Her talent earned her the admiration of many, and praise in numerous competitions for the acting performance with which she took on each role. She ventured into various media, but it was perhaps theater that most captivated and delighted her. Under the guidance of directors such as José Antonio Rodríguez, in the Buscón group, or with Flora Lauten at Teatro Buendía, or Carlos Díaz and Teatro El Público, she found a way to create characters and defend them with that magic and peculiarity as she did in each staging of these collectives.
Thus, characters like Phaedra, the best Juliet, or the best Lila of Cuban theater will remain in the memory of many. On television, Broselianda also left a mark that will be indelible due to the peculiarity of her work, the unique stamp of her characters; productions such as Las honradas and Cuando el agua regresa a la tierra will be materials to remember her forever despite the passage of time. In cinema, she divided her performances between Cuban and foreign productions, and among her notable titles are Barrio Cuba, by Humberto Solás; Una rosa de Francia, by Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón; La Anunciación, by Enrique Pineda Barnet; and José Martí: el ojo del canario, by Fernando Pérez, a film in which she brilliantly played Leonor Pérez, the mother of Cuba's National Hero.
Her physical loss creates great pain among friends and lovers of the great work she defended. Through social networks, expressions of condolence are witness to the love and respect of her people for this woman who raised Cuban culture to great heights through her brilliant performances.
"I tried to rescue her, but unfortunately she was already dead," declared Marcos Carbono, a Spanish citizen who was walking in the area and found the body of the Cuban actress in North Miami Beach.
Friends and colleagues such as Yuliet Cruz, Tahimí Alvariño, Rosa María Jiménez, Jorge Perugorría, José Enrique Almirante, and many other personalities of Cuban acting and culture have expressed their condolences for the loss of such a beloved actress.
Her husband Jorge Enrique Hernández, with whom she had lived for several years in Miami, went yesterday to the same place where the actress's lifeless body was found to leave red roses that he ended up leaving on the sand.
