Cuban trumpeter José Miguel Crego, "el Greco", one of the most outstanding instrumentalists in Cuban music, died in the early morning hours of this Saturday, December 18, as a result of respiratory failure, reported the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM).
His death occurred in Havana, the city where he was born on January 25, 1958.
El Greco's career is connected with important groups such as the Cuban Orchestra of Modern Music, Irakere and NG La Banda, to which he was linked since its founding in 1988 and where he left his mark on that famous brass section that defined the group.
Later, he founded his own group: El Greco and his Quinteto Top Secret. In this way he continued to shine in the performance of both popular music and jazz. He participated in important Jazz festivals around the world and in the recording of more than 50 albums as a guest of national and international artists such as Willy Colón, Oscar De León, Héctor Lavoe, Andy Montañés, Willy Chirino or Dizzy Gilliespe. Among his group's CDs, El Jardín del Jazz and Gregolandia stand out.
