Alexis Schlachter, Outstanding Journalist Specializing in Scientific Topics, Passes Away

Distinguished Cuban journalist Alexis Schlachter, who specialized in scientific topics, passed away on April 5 in Havana.

His versatility allowed him to work in print media, radio, and television.

He was a reporter for the newspaper Granma, where he directed the page "Challenge to Imagination," dedicated to science and technology.

For years he headed the Weekly Magazine of Radio Reloj and several programs on radio stations such as Radio Rebelde, Radio Progreso, and Radio Habana Cuba.

Additionally, he left his mark as creator, screenwriter, and host of the popular Cuban television program "The Other Geography," which achieved high viewership ratings.

In his capacity as a researcher, he made relevant contributions to understanding the scientific culture of José Martí and the German influence on the Apostle's work. On these topics, he published books and numerous articles.

His work as president of the Circle of Scientific Journalists of Cuba also stood out.

He was a professor in the Communication program at the University of Havana and a lecturer in international courses, invited by the Organization of Iberoamerican States for Education, Science and Culture.

He represented Cuba at events of the Iberoamerican Organization of Scientific Journalism and at meetings related to science communication in countries throughout Europe and Asia.

Alexis Schlachter received various awards from the Union of Journalists of Cuba, the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, the José Martí Cultural Society, and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, among other recognitions.
