These are the Cubans nominated for the 2023 GRAMMY Awards

At least five Cubans are nominated for the 2023 GRAMMY Awards, the Academy announced this Tuesday. Camila Cabello, Arturo Sandoval, Cimafunk, Paquito D'Rivera and Mexican-born Cuban Arturo O'Farrill raise the bar for Cuban music in their bid for the coveted gramophone.



Camila Cabello is competing with her Bam Bam, alongside Ed Sheeran, in the best pop duo category. The singer shared images celebrating her nomination.



"Our Rhythm & Soul has been nominated for best Latin Jazz album. We are very happy and excited about it," said Arturo Sandoval on Instagram.



Arturo O'Farrill is also nominated in the same category with his album Fandango At The Wall In New York with his band The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, with The Congra Patria Son Jarocho Collective.



El Alimento by Erik Alejandro Rodríguez, known as Cimafunk, competes in the best alternative or Latin rock album category.



"Super honored and grateful to be nominated by the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs 2023 for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album with El Alimento. Fire!", said Cimafunk.



"Congratulations to all the nominees and thank you to my band La Tribu, my team and everyone who collaborated on this album. Heat it up!", he added.



Paquito D'Rivera is vying for best composer with his song African Tales in the Best Musical Composition category.



The United States Embassy in Havana congratulated the Cubans nominated for the GRAMMY Awards.



"Heartfelt congratulations to the five Cuban artists Cimafunk, Camila Cabello, Paquito D'Rivera, Arturo Sandoval and Arturo O'Farrill for being nominated for the 2023 GRAMMY Awards. Another recognition of the musical talent of the Cuban people," said the diplomatic corps.



The 2023 GRAMMYs, officially known as the 65th GRAMMY Awards, will air live on Sunday, February 5 from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, United States.



Singer Beyoncé is the star with the most nominations for the GRAMMY Awards: "she obtained nine nominations, which tied her with her husband Jay-Z, as the most nominated in the history of the award ceremony," reported the The Associated Press (AP) agency.



Beyoncé's "Break My Soul" received nominations for record and song of the year, while "Renaissance," which ventured into the world of dancehall music, received a nomination for album of the year. With Jay-Z also winning five nominations this year, each spouse now holds the record for the most Grammy nominations with 88 each, noted the aforementioned source.



Kendrick Lamar came in second with the most nominations, with eight. Adele and Brandi Carlile received seven nominations. Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige, Future, DJ Khaled, The-Dream, and mastering engineer Randy Merrill each took home six, AP added.
