Félix Pérez, Cuban baseball player for the Bravos de León, will undergo facial surgery after being hit by a foul ball that he himself had hit during a Mexican Baseball League game played Wednesday night against the Mariachis de Guadalajara.
In a Twitter message, Pérez assured that he would be operated on in a few hours: "To everyone who has been following what happened, I wanted to thank you for the support and your prayers, unfortunately I fractured the left side of my face."
Pérez, 36 years old, experienced one of the most dramatic at-bats in baseball history, because minutes before the ball that hit him, during the same at-bat he had hit a foul that struck a fan in the stands who had to be removed from the stadium to receive medical attention.
Simply two dramatic moments were experienced in Guadalajara during Wednesday's game, as first Félix Pérez hit a foul ball that struck a fan and then he suffered a facial fracture after being hit by a foul pop-up while batting.
When the top of the sixth inning was being played, the Bravos player hit a foul ball that impacted a fan's face, who was immediately assisted by medical personnel, and then, Pérez swung at a pitch, a pop-up came out that impacted directly on the left side of his face, causing bleeding from the couple of cuts he sustained.
