Cuban swimmer Rodolfo Falcón (junior) will compete in June in the second phase of the Mare Nostrum Circuit in France, confirmed today here by the national commissioner of the sport, Nelson García.
In statements to the digital newspaper Jit, an informative medium of the Cuban Institute of Sports (Inder), García specified that in the French competition Falcón will compete in 800 and 400 meters, always under the supervision of his coach Luis María Mojarrieta.
After competing in France, Falcón will travel to the Spanish city of Barcelona, where he will face the challenge of his rivals in 400 and 1,500 meters freestyle in the closing of the Mare Nostrum Circuit on June 5 and 6.
The objective of the swimmer from Havana is to achieve the qualifying A standard for the I Pan American Youth Games that will be held in Colombia, from November 25 to December 5.
Likewise, the official regretted that Elisbet Gámez, Luis Vega, Andrea Becali and Lorena González were unable to participate in the tour, because they did not receive health permission for entry to those competitions for non-community citizens.
Nevertheless, he emphasized that Inder carried out the regulatory procedures, but the migration authorities of those countries, due to the epidemiological situation derived from Covid-19, did not authorize them.
The absence prevents those swimmers from being able to compete for a quota for the Olympic Games, which is why García pointed out that the International Federation will be requested to allow Games and Vega to participate, based on the universality criterion.
This, the commissioner detailed, because both have B standards in the 200 meters of the freestyle and butterfly strokes, respectively.
