Cuban Baseball Star and Double Olympic Champion Lázaro Vargas Resumes Sale of Roast Pork Sandwich in Miami

Cuban baseball star and double Olympic champion, Lázaro Vargas, is resuming his roast pork sandwich business in the city of Miami. It is now possible to see him as a vendor and cook, in a blue food truck, which has the number 20 and the sign: "if you try it, you'll hit a home run".

Vargas' truck can be found at 120 SW Street and 128 Court, in the Kendall area. This location is relatively close to where he lives with his family, he who was a player for the Cuba team. For this occasion, the legendary and popular former third baseman of Industriales improved the location and the place where he himself will cook and sell roast pork sandwiches, one of the most demanded products by Cubans when it comes to fast food, and he does it in a cart decorated in blue, with the number 20 shining and the phrase "if you try it, you'll hit a home run".

Vargas had started this venture on two previous occasions, but had to close it due to legal procedures. Previously, Vargas' food truck was located in the city of Homestead, where he introduced this new facet as a vendor and also as a cook.

In an interview with Swing Completo, Cuba team's third baseman shared details about this job.

"It has been one of the best jobs I've had in my life, because the sales were tremendous and the tips people left me were 30, 40, 50 and even 100 dollars. Truck drivers who had seen me play in Cuba would buy 10 and 15 sandwiches from me. Something incredible that made me conclude that it was worthwhile to the point of possibly becoming the best job I've had without exaggerating," he explained.

Previously, Vargas had been working, until very recently, as a baseball coach at a school, work that although it had more to do with the sport he played much of his life, falls short in compensation compared to what he can aspire to now with this gastronomic project.

The man who decided the 1988 World Championship clarified that although his son signed as a professional and is performing favorably in the Minor Leagues with the Dodgers, he prefers not to depend on Miguel Antonio and make his own money through daily work.

"I have health and the desire to keep working. In life you can't settle down and I always like to stay active and not leave the financial burden to my son. That wouldn't be fair, but in this country you have to have the positive mindset that you can move forward and that by working there are many things that can be achieved," concluded the man whom many consider the most media-savvy and followed ballplayer of the capital teams of that generation in the eighties and nineties.

In this venture, Vargas has had the support of famous Cuban ballplayers René Arocha and Yuniesky Gurriel.
