The Cuban Yasiel Puig will play in Dominican Republic with Toros del Este

December 8, 2020

Cuban baseball player Yasiel Puig will play starting next week in the Dominican Baseball League with the Toros del Este team, announced today by the team's general manager, Raymond Abreu.

In statements to the press, Abreu explained that the Cuban is the type of player that adapts 'perfectly to our style of play, he can impact the game in many ways, he has power, speed, good defense and his energy is contagious'.

Puig is a seven-year veteran in the Major Leagues of the United States with the Dodgers, Reds and Indians and in 861 games he bats for an average of .277 with 132 home runs and 415 runs batted in.

The 2020-21 season of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic, limited to 30 games due to Covid-19, features star players and has made its level grow considerably.

At this moment, players of the caliber of outfielders Gregory Polanco, Franchy Cordero, Víctor Robles, Melky Cabrera, Juan Lagares, prospect Julio Rodríguez, Odubel Herrera, José Siri and Carlos Peguero are playing.

Likewise, infielders Miguel Andujar, Abiatal Avelino and catcher Gary Sánchez.

And when it comes to pitchers, Deivi García, the star Domingo Germán, Johnny Cueto are on the field and this month the incorporation of Carlos 'Tsunami' Martínez is expected, along with infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

All those mentioned had outstanding performances in American baseball and their countrymen expect the same from them here, they only regret not being able to see them directly in the stadiums due to the pandemic.

Without a doubt, the reduction in games and movements that occurred in the big league allowed these signings for the benefit of the sport of balls and strikes in the country.
