Renowned Cuban television presenter Edith Massola, the face of the television program 23 y M, is adding a new audiovisual project to her resume with her participation in Cherri, a feature film by director Fabián Suárez that will have its world premiere on April 12 at the Miami Film Festival.

In this production, which explores the complexities of love, dance, and desire through the story of a choreographer of a plus-size ballet company in Havana, Massola takes on the challenging role of a gypsy woman, joining a stellar cast that includes Juan Miguel Más in the leading role.

Cherri represents a particularly significant project in the current Cuban film landscape. The film was born from director Fabián Suárez's fascination with the figure of Juan Miguel Más, whom he discovered in Cuban theaters while studying dramaturgy at the University of the Arts (ISA).

The film, which will compete in the official section of the Miami Film Festival, has a first-rate production team, including cinematography by Javier Labrador Deulofeu, editing by Juan Manuel Gamazo, and art direction by Taimí Ocampo. The participation of Massola, along with other talents such as Noslen Sánchez, Gabriela Griffith, and Verónica Díaz, enriches a story that, according to the director's own words, "captures part of the personal biography" of his protagonist.

The plot follows Cherri, a choreographer who directs a plus-size ballet company in Havana while caring for his disabled husband, facing an unexpected passion that challenges the limits of the body and heart. The special participation of Danza Voluminosa, the group of dancers directed by Juan Miguel Más in real life, adds an additional layer of authenticity to the narrative.

This film is a production of La Danta Films, Alayé and Atelier Makarenko, in association with Aja Entertainment, Unity Rentals, Loring McAlpin and Cinema 502, which promises to be one of the most talked-about Cuban cinema releases in 2025.

The presence of Edith Massola in this project marks an interesting meeting point between Cuban television and cinema, demonstrating the versatility of an artist who has managed to maintain her relevance through different media and genres.

Edith Margarita Massola Mederos (Havana, September 7, 1967) is one of the most versatile and charismatic artists on the Cuban scene. Her path in art began exactly on the day she turned 14, when she began her dance studies, but it was her film debut in Una novia para David, playing Olga, that marked the beginning of a successful career that would lead her to conquer multiple artistic spaces.

Her versatility has led her to shine in telenovelas such as El año que viene, where she immortalized the phrase "Dime algo, Fernández," and Al compás del son, as well as in films such as Nada and La noche de los inocentes.

Since 1998, Massola has become a regular on national television thanks to her presence, on Saturday afternoons, hosting the program 23 y M, a space that she initially hosted under the direction of Julio César Leal and of which she later became director.
