At Ichan Stadium, where this tournament was held as part of World Athletics' Continental Tour and brought together major track and field figures from the United States and other countries, Pérez prevailed with 67.44 meters.
With this, "La Rusa" positioned herself ahead of American Veronica Fraley (63.51) and Nigerian Ashley Anumba (59.81), according to the official championship results.
Her mark even exceeded that of the men's discus champion, Jamaican Traves Smikle, who threw a distance of 65.36 meters.
The 32-year-old from Santiago has a personal record of 69.39 meters, which she achieved on July 16, 2019, in the French city of Sotteville-les-Rouen.
After nearly a year without competing, following her departure from the Cuban delegation last year, the discus thrower obtained a third-place finish in the track and field tournament held in April at Tritón Stadium, in La Jolla, California.
In what was her debut on U.S. soil, she achieved the impressive mark of 66.97 meters.
Pérez was Cuba's flag bearer at the last Olympic Games and left the national delegation after the conclusion of the World Athletics Championship in the U.S. city of Eugene, Oregon.
Her departure became the third from the delegation—which included 16 athletes—as javelin thrower Yiselena Ballar and team physiotherapist Carlos González Morales had previously departed.
