Animated film honors virtuoso Cuban musician Leo Brouwer

The renowned Cuban composer Leo Brouwer is the protagonist of the animated series Tito Reacciona, created by the Instituto Latino de la Música (ILM) to pay tribute to several ambassadors of culture on the island.

Maestro Brouwer, who just turned 81 years old, upon seeing himself on screen transformed into an animated drawing stated: 'At 80 years old to see myself in cartoons, as we Cubans say, is wonderful. I have been a witness to many things, but this impacted me'.

Likewise, he noted the effect it may have on preschool and primary school children, who it is aimed at, since 'one can forget many things, but never the cartoons you watched in childhood', pointed out the orchestra director.

Author of the music for films such as Memorias del subdesarrollo, Lucía, Las aventuras de Juan Quin Quin, Como Agua Para Chocolate, among others, the virtuoso guitarist returns to cinema in the second episode of this five-minute series, which constitutes the preamble to the release in all theaters of the Caribbean nation of the American film TOY STORY 4.

Among the significant pieces of Brouwer's career stand out Elogio de la danza, Estudios sencillos, Paisaje cubano con fiesta (2007), La Espiral eterna (1971) and El decamerón negro (1981).

Tito Reacciona is an animated YouTuber created in Mexico by Daniel Martín Subiaut, president of the ILM since 2018 and who aims to enhance the values of Latin American artistic heritage through the language of 2D animation, as well as connect the past of recognized figures with new generations.

Produced between Cuba, Argentina, the United States and Mexico, the audiovisual in addition to Brouwer, will highlight the work of pianist Chucho Valdés, winner of the 2019 Latin Grammy in the Best Jazz Album category, and singer Omara Portuondo, awarded the Excellence in Music Prize given by the Latin Recording Academy.

Likewise, the production pays tribute to National Music Prize winner Frank Fernández, prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, who recently passed away, and to Benny Moré, the greatest sonero, on his centennial.

With the collaboration of the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos and the Instituto Cubano de Radio y Televisión, Tito Reacciona will have its television version; as well as in radio format and its promotional strategy includes multiple platforms such as theater, cinema, literature and social networks.

The animated series, which will have subtitles in English, French, Mandarin, German, Portuguese and Russian, was presented in cities in Mexico, Argentina and the United States, as well as in hundreds of movie theaters and festivals in Latin America and Europe.
