Specialists and academics highlighted in France the ICAIC Latin American Newsreels and their main creator, Cuban Santiago Álvarez, as part of the Latin America and Caribbean Week that continues its activities today.
During that celebration, a round table discussion on the topic was held organized by the Institute of Higher Studies of Latin America, in cooperation with the National Audiovisual Institute (INA).
INA specialists and French university professors highlighted the historical value of the ICAIC Latin American Newsreels, a collection registered in UNESCO's Memory of the World registry.
Likewise, they emphasized the work of Cuban filmmaker Santiago Álvarez during the years he directed the Newsreels.
The round table constituted a tribute to the centennial of the filmmaker's birth, as well as to the 60 years since the creation of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industries (ICAIC).
Cuba has a broad presence in the celebrations of Latin America and Caribbean Week in France, which will end on Friday.
Among the numerous proposals from the Caribbean nation, the concert by Alexander Abreu and Havana d'Primera at the Parisian theater Bataclán stands out, who got the French audience dancing to the rhythm of popular Cuban music.
On the other hand, a conference titled 'The Restoration of Old Havana: the Challenge of a Utopia' is scheduled for tomorrow, offered by the historian of the Cuban capital, Eusebio Leal, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the founding of that city.
