The World Para Athletics Championship will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from tomorrow, November 7 through the 15th, and among the list of the 10 most renowned women, Cuban Omara Durand stands out.

Durand has been a five-time Paralympic champion and world record holder in the 100, 200 and 400 meters T12 (profound visual impairment), and is among the leading women to watch, according to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

On its official website, the IPC dedicates space to the Caribbean athlete, the fastest disabled woman on the track, as part of the major attractions of the competition, initially scheduled for the main emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Along with Durand, the list includes:

Deja Young (United States)
Diana Dadzite (Latvia)
Hongzhuan Zhou (China)
Kadeena Cox (Great Britain)
Leilia Adzhametova (Ukraine)
Marlene Van Gansewinkel (Netherlands)
Martina Caironi (Italy)
Raoua Tili (Tunisia)
Vanessa Low (Australia)

Competition

Omara could begin another great performance on the opening day, competing in the qualifying heats of the 400 meters, a distance in which she will defend her London 2017 title and the world record of 51.77 seconds set at the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games on September 17, 2016.

The medal competition for that event will be on the 9th at 18:33 (local time) at the Khalifa International Stadium, where the Cuban will have a demanding schedule to win three gold medals again.

She will compete on the 10th and 11th. On that first date she will be in the qualifying round for the final of the 100 meters; on the 11th she will have to race to advance to the semifinals of the 200 in one of the four heats.
