Cuban musicians Daymé Arocena and Pável Urkiza premiered the song «Everything for You», which sings about recent events in Cuba. This emotional song says: «Cuba, a door opens, on the path toward you. Awaken your heart, awaken, your children have already taken over the streets, without fear, they embraced you mouth to mouth, so as not to let you die» and then you hear: «Cuba, heal your agony, we are praying for you. Breathe, hope breathes».
In the video clip, edited by Eliecer Jiménez-Almeida, images are shown of demonstrations in various cities and towns on the Island with cries of freedom.
Pavel Urquiza picked up his guitar and wrote Everything for You, a song that adds to the list of songs that have been playing in recent months, headed by the now emblematic Patria y vida.
Everything for You premiered on YouTube on Tuesday, July 20, and emerged the day after the events of July 11. The lyrics read: «Beautiful Cuba, with eyes of heaven, don't suffer anymore, no, beautiful Cuba, don't cry anymore, you've been blind for too long. What you need, Cuba, is for us to give everything for you, everything for you. It's that we change for you, everything for you. It's starting over for you».
Urkiza in an interview with Nuevo Herald commented: «I saw myself in the skin of all those protesters and felt the need to do my part in this battle for freedom against a government that has been in power for 62 years». Regarding the choice of Daymé Arocena, who resides in Toronto, he said that from the first moment he thought of her because she is one of the great Cuban interpreters of recent generations. «Daymé identified with the message right away, she told me that she had been moved from the first time she heard the song, and that like me she believed it was a way for the voice of Cuban artists to reach everywhere», he noted.
He added: «The most curious thing is that we have never met in person, but that has not been an obstacle for us to admire each other and keep up with our careers». This video was filmed at Pavel's home under the direction of Eliecer Jiménez-Almeida. The images of Daymé were handled by Pablo Dewin. In it sobriety predominates, the true protagonists are the protests in Cuba. «A song does not directly topple a government, but it can change the way a people think, as is the case with Patria y vida, which made a castrating slogan like 'homeland or death' become a symbol of freedom, and could incite a people to defy the government», the musician emphasized.
