Dayán Viciedo is among the best at driving in runs in Japanese baseball

Cuban Dayán Viciedo drove in a run today in his team Chunichi Dragons' loss 5-11 to Hiroshima Carp to solidify his position among the leaders in that category of professional baseball in Japan.

The infielder from the Cuban province of Villa Clara connected a double in three plate appearances that served to drive in a run, his 38th of the season so far.

Viciedo, who played for the Chicago White Sox in the Major Leagues of the United States, ranks among the top 10 RBI leaders in the Central League led by Kazuma Okamoto, of the Yomiuri Giants with 63, and Munetaka Murakami (Yakult-50).

After the game the Cuban player finished with an average of .289, while his teammate, Dominican pitcher Randy Rosario, allowed three hits and the same number of runs, seeing his earned run average affected, now at 2.70.

In other results, the Giants defeated the Yakult Swallows 10-3, in a game played at Meiji Jingu Stadium in Tokyo, where Dominican Domingo Santana connected two hits and Venezuelan José Osuna went hitless for the losers.

Meanwhile, in the matchup played between the DeNA Stars and Hanshin Tigers, Venezuelan pitcher Edwin Escobar threw a scoreless inning to guarantee the first team's victory 3-1.

The Venezuelan pitcher improved his effectiveness to 2.76 earned run average per nine-inning games, while Dominican Jefry Marte, for Hanshin, failed in four opportunities and his batting average dropped to .283.

For his part, the matchup between the SoftBank Hawks and Rakuten Eagles concluded 3-2 in favor of the latter, while the game between the Orix Buffaloes and Seibu Lions ended in a 3-3 tie.
