Cuban Raciel del Toro appointed director of the Film Center of Costa Rica

"For this new stage, we enthusiastically welcome Raciel del Toro, whose outstanding trajectory in the national and international audiovisual field will continue to nourish the most relevant projects and purposes of the Film Center and dialogue with an audiovisual scene that is increasingly diverse," said Sylvie Durán, Minister of Culture and Youth.

Cuban journalist and film critic Raciel del Toro was appointed director of the Film Center of Costa Rica, a governmental entity dedicated to developing film production and cinematographic culture in that Central American country.

The Ministry of Culture and Youth of Costa Rica emphasized Del Toro's high professional level by explaining that his "appointment was established through a session of the National Cinematography Council, a body that highlighted Del Toro's extensive knowledge regarding the institutional dynamics of the Film Center, his participation as artistic director in relevant programs such as the Costa Rica International Film Festival; event production processes, fund administration, coordination of strategic industry links for film and digital animation, cinematographic training, creation of audiovisual products, among other similar professional experiences".

Raciel Del Toro graduated with a degree in Journalism from the School of Communication at the University of Havana.

From his first professional endeavors he was linked to the seventh art and has published texts on film that stand out for their depth and acuity in magazines in Cuba, Spain, and Germany, among other countries.

He served as a professor of Audiovisual Production and Film Criticism at the University of Havana and at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). He worked as Director of Communications at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in the Cuban capital, and was executive assistant at the International Film Festival of Poor Cinema in Gibara.

In Costa Rica, where he resides, he was director of training at the International Film Festival (CRFIC) and training coordinator in the 2016 edition. Since 2017 he has served as artistic director of the CRFIC.
