Chicago White Sox first baseman José Abreu has reported that he underwent emergency surgery last month to correct a testicular condition.
The Cuban indicated that he suffered testicular torsion. He underwent surgery on August 21st at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
"One of my testicles twisted and was strangulated," Abreu said before the game against the Detroit Tigers. "The doctor had to perform emergency surgery to save it. I never thought about that, but it was something serious."
"I am grateful to all the people who helped me, to the doctors and the hospital staff who helped me recover. I feel good," he expressed.
Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn is confident that the 31-year-old slugger will return to the lineup by mid-September.
The Cuban has already begun light physical activity and should resume baseball activities for next week. He leads Chicago with 22 home runs and 78 RBIs in 122 games.
