By a margin of 46 centimeters, Cuban-born Spanish national Jordan Alejandro Díaz Fortún broke his own Spanish triple jump record again after registering 17.76 meters (+1.0m/S) in the Joma League of Spanish Clubs held in La Nucía.
After a first attempt of 17.07 meters and a foul on the second, Jordan achieved the best result of his life with those 17.76 meters and surpassed the Spanish record of 17.30 meters that he had set on June 4 in Jaén. This was, barely, his second outdoor competition of the season.
With this result, the U18 world record holder not only won the title for Club Barcelona, but also became the new world leader in the event by surpassing the 17.64 meters of Cuban Andy Díaz, which was the best jump of 2022.
Of Díaz Fortún's four competitions so far this year, in three of them he has broken the Spanish record in the discipline. On February 20 he reached 17.27 meters during the Spanish U23 Indoor Championship to dethrone Pablo Torrijos as record holder with 17.09. Subsequently, the native of the Island of Cuba jumped 17.30 meters at the Jaén Meeting, the best Spanish mark in history to this day.
In this way, Jordan Díaz places himself at the forefront of triple jump in 2022, although, of course, he will still not be able to represent Spain in an official World Athletics championship, which is why he will miss the Eugene World Championships in July.
Two other Cubans flank the Spanish record holder at the top of the world rankings: the aforementioned Andy Díaz with 17.64 meters and the indoor world champion, Lázaro Martínez, with 17.30 meters.
