Cuban pole vaulter Yarisley Silva, Olympic silver medalist from London 2012, will compete this Thursday in the eighth stop of the 2019 Diamond League athletics circuit, held in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Silva, world champion in Beijing 2015, will be one of 10 competitors in the pole vault, which organizers plan to hold in the city and not inside the stadium, which will give that event an eye-catching touch.

Among the registered pole vaulters is also Greek athlete Katerina Stefanidi, winner of the title at the summer games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and gold medalist at the universal championship in London 2017.

Also competing are American Katie Nageotte and Venezuelan Robeilys Peinado, two athletes who could be opponents of Cuba's representative at the Lima Pan American Games, where the athlete from Pinar del Río will be seeking her third consecutive title.

In her most recent appearance in the Diamond League circuit, Silva finished in sixth place at the stop hosted by Rabat, Morocco, on June 16.

There she achieved her best mark of the current season with 4.67 meters, the same distance achieved by four other competitors, including Nageotte.

That result allowed her to earn three points in her bid to reach the final in that event, and she currently has eight points total, which she earned in Rome, Italy, on the 6th of last month.

As a reminder, in the Italian capital Silva cleared 4.66 m to place fourth, so she is still far from her best marks, in a sports career in which her personal record stands at 4.91 meters.

The Diamond League will have 14 stops, including the finals which will be in Zurich and Belgium, where the winners of the gem in each of the scheduled events will be determined, according to the official website of the International Athletics Federation.
