Acosta Danza, a company directed by Principal Dancer Carlos Acosta, will perform in Chile in the first days of January 2020, as part of the International Festival Santiago a Mil.
It will be the first time that the group, founded in 2015, performs in South America, which will constitute an important moment in its history, reported Lester Vila Pereira, press director of the company.
The Cuban dancers will perform on the stages of Teatro Municipal Las Condes (January 3, 4 and 5), at Centro Cultural San Joaquín (7), Centro Cultural La Pintana (8), Teatro Municipal de Antofagasta (10) and Anfiteatro de Padahuel (11 and 12).
The program is composed of works by internationally renowned creators: Imponderable and Alrededor no hay nada, by Spanish Goyo Montero—resident choreographer of Acosta Danza.
By Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, the duets Fauno and Mermaid will be danced, the latter performed by Carlos Acosta. The audience will also be able to see Soledad, a duet created by Rafael Bonachela, with music by Astor Piazzolla and Agustín Lara; and the piece Diez, by Jorge Crecis. The company includes La muerte de dos cisnes, a recreation based on the well-known choreography by Mikhail Fokine.
The International Festival Santiago a Mil is celebrated every January in the capital and in different cities of the South American country.
For three weeks, the public can enjoy contemporary creations of theater, dance, music, performance, circus, visual arts and cinema, among other expressions.
Breaking the territorial, economic and social borders of the nation is what the festival proposes, which extends free programming to about 20 communes in the Metropolitan Region and to 15 Chilean cities.
Acosta Danza has had, since its stage debut, the objective of presenting dance performances in full accordance with the most current notions being developed in the world, not only in matters of body movement but in everything related to the stage.
The company defines itself as a space for renewal, search and experimentation, not only for Cuban artists, but also opens doors to creators from around the world, choreographers, musicians, designers, visual and audiovisual artists.
Its choreographic repertoire also includes titles by Carlos Acosta, Justin Peck, María Rovira, Marianela Boán, Saburo Teshigawara, Pontus Lidberg, Christopher Bruce, Juanjo Arqués and Raúl Reinoso, among others.
