Cuban filmmaker Alejandro Brugués was chosen to direct Netflix's horror film "The Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy".

This film is based on the original screenplay by Chris LaMont and Joe Russo that appeared on the BloodList 2018 and Netflix acquired it, according to Deadline.

Paul Schiff, who collaborated with Netflix on the thriller Fractured starring Sam Worthington, is producing the film for Paul Schiff Productions.

The story follows multimillionaire Charles Abernathy who, on the eve of his 75th birthday, invites his four children to return home for fear that tonight someone, or something, will come to kill him.

To ensure that his family will help him protect himself from whatever comes, Abernathy risks each of their inheritances: they will get nothing if they find him dead at dawn.

Brugués directed the Cuban film Juan de los Muertos in 2012; Nightmare Cinema in 2018, in which he collaborated with Russo; as well as episodes of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series and Into the Dark on Hulu. Brugués is represented by UTA, Wonder Street and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.

LaMont and Russo's credits include Hard Kill starring Bruce Willis and The Au Pair Nightmare. The duo is represented by Gersh, Fictional Entity and Morris, Yorn.

Alejandro Brugués has won as a director and screenwriter a Goya Award for Best Iberoamerican Film and has received several nominations for the same award, including Best Film and Best Screenplay.

Actually, the filmmaker was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but grew up and was trained in Cuba.
