Cubans Chucho Valdés and Paquito D'Rivera; American Tierney Sutton; French EYM Trio, in addition to Barbarito Torres and Teté Caturla, from the legendary Cuban orchestra Buenavista Social Club, are the main figures who will perform at Barranquijazz 2022.

During a press conference, the event director, Samuel Minsky, and Barranquilla's Secretary of Culture, María Teresa Fernández, highlighted that this year will mark the return to in-person events of the most important jazz festival in the Colombian Caribbean, EFE reported.

Next Thursday, nine-time Grammy nominee and winner of the award for Best Jazz Vocal Album, Tierney Sutton, will offer a recital alongside members of her band.

Barranquijazz will also feature the presence of Cuban trumpeters Mayquel González, Julito Padrón and Basilio Márquez; the Swiss trio Dig Dug Dug; pianist Thomas Florin; Cuban-Dutch Beatriz All Star, and Colombians Estrellas del Caribe, OR Band, Pinó Moré and Uninorte Dixieland Jazz Band.

In addition to their musical performances, on September 22 the legends Chucho Valdés and Paquito D'Rivera will participate in a conversation in which they will tell the story of their musical adventures, their deep friendship and the legacy that began more than 60 years ago.

Valdés and D'Rivera are not only two great and undisputed references of all Cuban music history, but they are also considered living legends of Latin sound in all its dimensions. Critics place this duo as responsible for giving meaning and form to jazz on the Island.

Together they developed most of their activities at the Musical Theater of Havana and in the Cuban Orchestra of Modern Music, which D'Rivera directed for two years, until 1973, when Chucho invited his inseparable friend to participate in the founding of Irakere, one of the most transcendental groups in all of Cuban musical history.

Separately, they have accumulated more than 25 Grammy and Latin Grammy awards, among many other distinguished accolades.

Buenavista Social Club arrives at Barranquijazz led by trumpeter Julio Padrón, as a continuation of a prestigious musical project this time made up of lute player Barbarito Torres, one of the last survivors of the legendary Cuban group.

Also present will be singers Teresa García, better known as Teté Caturla, who despite her age maintains "the youthfulness of her voice," and as a guest Cándido Fabré, known as the King of Improvisation, and Héctor Valentín, better known as El Valiente.
