With a string of beautiful songs, Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez closed the First Caribbean Film and Environment Festival Isla Verde, a concert whose resonance still echoes across the southern Isle of Youth.
At the Presidio Modelo National Monument, in that special municipality of Cuba, Silvio sang before a multitude of followers, after more than 15 years without performing in Cuban territory.
Accompanying the troubadour were flutist and clarinetist Niurka González, Oliver Valdés on percussion, Jorge Reyes on bass, Rachid and Mykel members of the Trovarroco trio on guitar and tres respectively, and with the special participation on Creeme and Yolanda of the voice of his daughter Malva Rodríguez, they delighted the audience present with a beautiful concert, the culmination of an event held from May 31 to June 5.
On Instagram, the Festival highlighted that Silvio has spent years contributing to environmental conservation issues.
Together with the Ariguanabo foundation, the singer-songwriter has contributed to the cleaning of the homonymous river in his native municipality, San Antonio de los Baños, the social network post added.
Among many other activities, this First Caribbean Film and Environment Festival Isla Verde included a posthumous tribute to Cuban singer Osmel Francis, who collaborated with sustained work on environmental preservation.
The event, directed by popular actor and filmmaker Jorge Perugorría, was also conceived to join the path of converting Cuba into a beacon of environmental conservation in the region, while promoting local development projects.
While maintaining its cinematographic profile with screenings of documentaries and films, according to organizers, this annual event also aims to raise social awareness toward environmental preservation and healthy surroundings.
