Cuban dance company Acosta Danza, founded and directed by acclaimed dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta, has concluded its successful tour of the United Kingdom with the dance work Carmen. The final performances took place at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking between May 6 and 9, 2026, including a double show on Saturday as a farewell to a production that captivated audiences in Richmond, Aylesbury, Manchester, and Brighton.

Set to Rodion Shchedrin's orchestration of Bizet's opera score and infused with Cuban music, the production blends classical ballet with the contemporary techniques and Cuban dance traditions that define the Havana-based company. Critics praised Carlos Acosta's Carmen as a work that masterfully balances entertainment and passion, bearing the unmistakable stamp of Cuban art on the great stages of the United Kingdom.

Alongside the tour's closing, Carlos Acosta — who also serves as director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet — gave a masterclass in classical dance technique on May 7 at the Superior Dance Conservatory of Valencia 'Nacho Duato', attended by regional education officials. The visit was described as an exceptional opportunity for students of the conservatory to learn directly from one of the world's great dance masters.

Founded by Carlos Acosta in late 2015 and debuting artistically in April 2016, Acosta Danza blends classical and contemporary ballet techniques with Cuban dance traditions. The company has earned significant international recognition, including the UK National Dance Award as best medium-format company.
