The Birmingham Royal Ballet will return to the stages of the United Kingdom to present a set of world premieres directed by renowned Cuban dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta, the official website reported on Monday.
Considered a star of international ballet, the winner of the 2020 Dance Magazine Award will lead two world premieres and a UK premiere under the name Curated by Carlos: Triple Bill.
The renowned European company he directs will open its performances with the piece City of a Thousand Trades which celebrates the rich cultural and industrial heritage of the city of Birmingham, known as the City of a Thousand Trades.
The ballet features the talent of Cuban choreographer Miguel Altunaga, together with playwright and co-director Madeleine Kludje of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, as well as music by composer Mathias Coppens.
For her part, Brazilian choreographer Daniela Cardim will premiere the piece Imminent, whose synopsis addresses pressing issues such as the increase in consumerism and the health crisis caused by COVID-19 worldwide.
According to the official website, Cardim will bring together international talents in her curation, including British composer, pianist and orchestra director Paul Englishby.
Another of the premieres will be the work Chacona which is a physical and moving piece created by Spanish choreographer Goyo Montero directs the Nuremberg Ballet and resident choreographer of the Cuban company Acosta Danza.
The staging adds live music by German composer Johann Sebastian Bach performed by the acclaimed orchestra of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, the Royal Ballet Sinfonia.
For three consecutive days, the British public will be able to enjoy the premieres starting on June 10.
