Cuban actress Camila Arteche won one of the "Best Performance" awards given by the Hollywood North Film Awards for the short film Boxeadora.

On her Instagram account, Camila shared her emotions after receiving the award: "One doesn't work for awards. I work for myself, because I'm passionate about it and for people, because I love creating awareness by telling stories".

However, the actress acknowledged that when receiving recognition of this kind the joy is enormous: "My people, what happiness when they recognize the effort! And this joy I want to share with you, who are always here. Thank you Hollywood North Film Awards for recognizing Boxeadora".

The audiovisual work, written and directed by Oldren Romero in 2019, was selected as "Best International Short" and also won the awards for "Best Editing"; "Best Cinematography", by Alexander González; and "Best Makeup and Hair", which went to Magdalena Álvarez; for which reason Camila Arteche extended her congratulations to her entire team.

On the official event account on Instagram, a congratulatory message was posted to all winners following the announcement of this edition's awards: "Congratulations to all the independent filmmakers of exceptional talent who took home victories at this year's Hollywood North Film Awards".

Regarding her preparation for taking on this role in Boxeadora, Camila Arteche said in an interview with DeporCuba that for three months she practiced boxing: "I loved it. I never thought it would take so much out of you, because it's very demanding".

On this sport, the actress noted at that time that "the fact that women in Cuba don't practice it is one of the many forms of discrimination they experience (...). It seems to me that it's a decision that belongs to women themselves. Deep down I think it's not so aggressive, that is, quite a few protective means are used".

In 2020, Camila Arteche won the award as "Best Latina Actress" at the MLC Awards given by the American festival of the same name.

The award on that occasion was for her performance in another short film, Sucedió en el cielo (2017), in which she shared scenes with Cuban actor Enrique Molina.

The Hollywood North Film Awards, which this time recognized the work of the Cuban actress, are given annually in Canada, and according to the official event page, it has the mission to "promote and award films that are powerful, that build worlds and are based on characters that push the boundaries of storytelling in Canada and around the world".

The non-profit organization that carries out this event is based in Toronto, Ontario, and "gives filmmakers the opportunity to obtain valuable feedback on their films without compromising their premiere status".
