Lázaro Bruzón is out of the Cuban team that will attend the World Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia, in the second half of September next.

The National Commission reported that the current number one in the local ranking traveled abroad for personal reasons and to participate in a preparatory event, and communicated a few days ago that he is undergoing medical treatment that requires rest and other measures not compatible with universal competition.

"We remain in contact with Bruzón in order to keep abreast of his state of health, and we have reiterated to him the willingness of the Cuban sports organization to contribute to his evaluation and treatment once he decides," indicates the note provided to the press.

The technical commission decided that GM Yasser Quesada fill the vacancy. "He is part of the recently formed national pre-selection, meets the expected performance parameters and held the position of first alternate in the initial roster," the document states.

The rest of the team remains with GMs Yusnel Bacallao, Isán Ortiz, Yuri González and Omar Almeida. The first of the significant absences was that of GM Leinier Domínguez, who had declined earlier due to personal issues.

The female team includes Lisandra Llaudy, Maritza Arribas, Yaniet Marrero, Yerisbel Miranda and Lisandra Ordaz.
