Cuban boxer Gianny García knocks out veteran Nicaraguan

Gianny García took an impressive step forward in his second professional appearance. The Cuban defeated Julio Buitrago by knockout in the fourth round in the return of Boxeo Telemundo that took place Friday at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida.

Buitrago (13-26, 3 KO) is a man who has already seen his best days pass, but the Nicaraguan remains a very dangerous opponent due to the experience accumulated over more than a decade and a half of career in the ring.

"I feel very happy about this victory, because my opponent had a world of experience on me," García said. "I know I have a long way to go, but this is a second victory that assures me that I'm on the right path in professional boxing."

From the moment the bell rang, Buitrago tried to appeal to the many tricks he has in his arsenal, especially clinches when he found himself in compromising moments, but García had the intelligence to find distance and begin landing his punches.

By the third round, the Cuban's advantage was more than evident, relying on combinations that pushed the Nicaraguan back, and in the fourth a powerful left hook would come that would send Buitrago to the canvas, who would not survive the count of 10.

"I didn't go out looking for the knockout, I just wanted to work on what we had prepared in training," García added. "But when the opportunity came I didn't think twice and threw that hook that we had repeated so many times with my trainer Franco González."

Scheduled at 122 pounds, the fight demonstrated how much García has advanced—his first victory came in Miami also by knockout.

The Cuban hopes to return to the ring as soon as possible to continue his rise.

"When the knockout happened everyone stood up from their seats," said trainer González. "We are in the presence of a true talent that will give much to talk about in the not-too-distant future."
