Yunier Colón Cremé

Yunier has been a baseball player since childhood. Today, at 25 years old, he weighs 82 kilograms and measures 179 cm tall. He is studying his second year of a degree in Physical Culture and follows the number one formula to the letter: a little coffee and no cigars. More than a fondness, he feels an aversion to drinking.

His 10 victories with four losses positioned him as the leading winner of Los Indios Guerreros del Guaso (Guantánamo) and one of the most decorated in the XLIX National Series. After two seasons being practically unknown, and with an adverse record of 2 and 7.

The work of pitching coaches Alfonso Ilivanes, Reynaldo Oliveros, and Osvaldo Duvergel has made this achievement possible. Colón had been a winner in provincial championships, in the Tournament of Champion Clubs and in the Development League, which is why he always believed that at any moment he could make the jump to the National Series.

Colón is a fastball pitcher who can reach 92 miles per hour, throws a slider, a downward curve, and a sinker that he considers his lethal weapon and that Osvaldo Duvergel has helped him perfect, a master of that pitch. He throws all these pitches from different release angles. That way I don't show anything to the batters.

The late Juan Revé (Pacito) and Héctor Peña contributed greatly to his development. The first taught him the rudiments of the game in the defunct special area of San Justo, where he started as a catcher; the second trained him as a pitcher and saved him as an athlete, because there was a time when he thought about quitting baseball, and he, with his perseverance and his teaching, made him change his mind.

Colón was a "street" pitcher, from the neighborhood, until he moved to the Provincial Academy. He was never in sports schools.

At the beginning of 2011 he just arrived in the city of Miami where he will try to begin his life as a professional baseball player and make his way toward Major League teams.
