Yumisleidis Cumbá

Outstanding Cuban athlete, specialist in shot put. Won the gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1998. Two-time Olympic champion at the Santo Domingo Olympic Games and the Athens 2004 Olympic Games with a record of 19.59. Silver and bronze medalist in youth and senior world cups.

Born in the province of Guantánamo, she was interested in sports from an early age. She has a good physique, with a height of 1.85 m and weighing 100 kg.

Won the gold medal in shot put at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1998 and at the 1999 University World Games, placed 2nd at the 1999 Pan American Games and at the 1993 Central American Games; and bronze medal at the 1995 Pan American Games.

At the National Championships held in the years: 1994-1995-1998-2000-2001-2002-2003-2004-2005-2006 she obtained the gold medal.

She holds as her personal outdoor record in shot put a mark of 19.97 in Huelva on 08/08/2004 and in discus throw a mark of 42.84 in Huelva on 01/01/1993.

The indoor record in shot put is 19.31 in Budapest, Hungary set on March 5, 2004.

Selected among the 10 best athletes of Cuba in 2004. Yumisleidis, at 29 years old, conquered the first title for the Caribbean island delegation in Athens, precisely at the Panathinaikos Stadium, home of the Ancient Greece Games, with a throw of 19.59 meters, winning the silver medal, which became gold five days later, after the doping and disqualification of Russian Irina Korzhanenko was announced. In this way, she shared with Cuban javelin thrower Osleidys Menéndez Sáez the honor of being the only Latin American women to win gold in the Greek capital.

The championship in Athens crowned her best season, which began with silver at the World Indoor Championship in Budapest and continued with the title at the Ibero-American Championship in Huelva.

Silver medalist at the World Indoor Championship held in 2004. By 2005 her outdoor campaign was summarized with nine wins and only two losses.

Considered among the best athletes and performances of the decade 2001-2010.

In 2006 in Athens in the 10th Cup she placed 3rd with a mark of 19.12.

At the 7th championship held in 1999 in Maebashi she placed 6th with a mark of 17.80.
At the 8th championship held in 2001 in Lisbon she placed 5th with a mark of 18.61.
At the 9th held in 2003 in Birmingham, GBR she placed 6th with a mark of 19.19.
At the 10th held in 2004 in Budapest (SA) she placed 2nd with a mark of 19.31.

In 2005 at the 3rd final held in Monaco she placed 7th with a mark of 18.44.
In 2006 at the 4th final held in Stuttgart she placed 4th with a mark of 18.78.

In 2004 she participated in this championship held in Huelva obtaining 1st place with a mark of 19.97.

On December 14, 2013, in a ceremony held at the Meliá Habana hotel she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Central American and Caribbean Athletics.
