===BODY===
Cuban baseball player and Olympic silver medalist has been with the Atlanta Braves.

Gómez played with Cuba's National Baseball Team at the 2000 Summer Olympics, where he won a silver medal.

He was originally going to participate in the team that would go to the 2009 World Baseball Classic but along with Yadel Martí was separated from the team in November 2008 due to disciplinary issues. In December 2008 he left his country and went to the Dominican Republic in an effort to make a career in the Major Leagues. In August 2009 they declared themselves free agents.

In August 2010 Gómez signed with the Atlanta Braves organization and was assigned to the Double-A Mississippi Braves.

He is a right fielder. Gómez stood out in Cuban baseball for his defense, speed and good contact batting, but failed to generate much interest in the Dominican Republic - despite batting over .300

The Havana native was Rookie of the Year in 1997. He batted .394 with 51 RBIs and 41 runs scored in 66 games in the 2008 National Series and during his time with Industriales he batted .331.

In 2011 he has an agent in Miami who is looking for a good placement in the major leagues although at 30 years old his prospects are not the same, although the player trains intensely.
