Tulio Raggi González

Died: December 3, 2013

He was a prominent Cuban animated film director and screenwriter. He is considered a pioneer of this genre in Cuba.

He earned a degree in Art History and completed studies in Civil and Diplomatic Law, as well as in Music Theory, solfège, and piano at the Miramar Animation Conservatory at the Academia Garcés.

During his lifetime he directed more than 60 works and some of them have earned multiple national and international recognitions.

Tulio Raggi defined himself as an incorrigible storyteller. From everyday life he was that little man, like an elf, who enriched fantasy from childhood and that of two other generations of Cubans. It is because he was like that, Tulio mischievous, imaginative, a creator even for the jokes that on many occasions caused irritation.

Of extraordinary culture, no one will ever be able to deny that he was one of the best animated film directors of revolutionary Cuba because he made revolution through those animations and animated messages in which he transmitted to children signs of love for nature, traditions, family, the history of a country in which he decided to stay at cost and risk.

He was part of the ICAIC Animation Studios from almost their founding and contributed to the professional development of many animated filmmakers such as Juan Padrón, cherished by Tulio, a brother.

The Grateful Man, The Blind Little Girl, Father's First Step, The Runaway Black Boy, Cinnamon's Ears, Filminutes, The Passage of Yabebirí, The Vessels and five adventures of Elpidio Valdés are just some of the animated works he gave to Cuban children.

As a wise conversationalist, virtuoso draftsman, of extremely sophisticated technique, lover of comics, student of history, a man who awakened different passions and always admiration and smiles, Tulio Raggi will be remembered thus.
