Ian Padrón Durán

Cuban film director and screenwriter. Creator of countless documentaries and music videos. Son of the renowned animator Juan Padrón (b. 1946).

He graduated in Direction from the Audiovisual Media Faculty at ISA. In 2000, he wrote and directed Motos, his first fictional short film. He was casting director for the film La vida es silbar by Fernando Pérez. His first feature film is Habanastation.

From a young age he collaborated with scripts for the Zunzún magazine, and for the animated series Filminutos of ICAIC. In 1996 he begins to work professionally with ICAIC, producing the following year, the Making of Amor Vertical, his first professional work.

His fictional short Motos, written and made in 2000, was the 1st graduation thesis produced by a student of the Higher Institute of Art of Cuba, in the Faculty of Cinema, Radio and TV.

In this he found that 35 mm cinema was something magical and difficult. He was able to work with actors now very well-known such as Rigoberto Ferrera, Heron Vega, Liliana Pérez and Orlando Ferrera. His father had a role.

Padrón graduated with excellent grades. His most recognized and controversial work is "Fuera de liga" his first feature documentary, which addresses the theme of baseball in Cuba.

He has also been the artistic director of concerts and galas of important figures in Cuban culture (Van Van, Beatriz Márquez and gala for the 2007 National Cinema Award to Juan Padrón).

Among his works are: "Después de tanto tiempo", that sublime tribute to Luis Carbonell, his video clips such as "Chapeando" and, of course, his controversial "Fuera de liga" as what it is: a good documentary, filmed from different angles attempting to offer the whole truth about the Industriales team.

He made the documentary ESO QUE ANDA about "Juan Formell y Los Van Van" and as the most important project of 2011, his feature film debut "Habanastation".

As of July 7, 2010, he started a new direction in his work with a radio program dedicated to soundtracks for audiovisuals. Within the Radio Taíno station "De Mañana", every Thursday at 10:30 am.

Being the son of Juan Padrón and nephew of Ernesto Padrón is a luxury and a challenge at the same time. Both were examples of professionalism and respect for children's audiences. They are cartoonists and filmmakers simultaneously. But he doesn't feel the weight because of their established works but because they have taught him and demanded that he be honest; they have motivated him to understand what is essentially Cuban, and they are the example that one can achieve success at a given moment and for that reason does not have to "put on airs".
