Cuban physician and politician. Minister of Health from 2012 until July 21, 2018 when he was promoted to the position of Vice President of the Council of Ministers in the First Ordinary Period of Sessions of the IX Legislature of the National Assembly. He is a deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power, ratified on April 18, 2018 in the Constitutive Session of the IX Legislature, held at the Palace of Conventions in Havana.[and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba. Vice President of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba since April 19, 2018, a position he held until October 10, 2019. Appointed First Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba on December 21, 2019 in the IV ordinary period of sessions corresponding to the IX Legislature of the National Assembly, a position he held until April 20, 2021, due to his transition to professional activity in the Party as a member of the Political Bureau's secretariat.
Morales Ojeda studied Medicine in 1991 and obtained a master's degree in Public Health. He worked as a physician and director of the Municipal Unit of Hygiene and Epidemiology in Rodas and in Cienfuegos. He then became a full-time official of the PCC in the province of Cienfuegos, as a member of the bureau in that municipality and in the province.
At the same time he served on the City Council of Cienfuegos and the Parliament of the province of Cienfuegos.
In 2010, Morales replaced José Ramón Balaguer as Minister of Public Health.
He was a delegate to the V, VI and VII Congresses of the PCC. At the last one, in 2016, he was elected member of the Central Committee of the PCC and of the Political Bureau of the PCC.
In the Constitutive Session of the IX Legislature on April 19, 2018, members of Parliament elected him Vice President of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba. [6], a position he held until October 10, 2019.
He was promoted to the position of Vice President of the Council of Ministers in the First Ordinary Period of Sessions of the IX Legislature of the National Assembly.
On December 21, 2019, at the proposal of the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, he was designated by the National Assembly of People's Power, in the IV ordinary period of sessions corresponding to the IX Legislature, First Vice Minister, a position he held until April 20, 2021, due to his transition to professional activity in the Party.
On April 20, 2021, at the proposal of the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez, the Council of State decided to relieve him of his position as Vice Prime Minister to take the position of Secretary of Organization and Cadre Policy in the secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, elected in the Eighth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, a position previously held by José Ramón Machado Ventura.
Recognition
On April 21, 2019 he received the distinction of Illustrious Son of Cienfuegos, the highest honor granted by the Municipal Assembly of People's Power of that province, in the Solemn Assembly of that governing body in tribute to the two centuries of Cienfuegos.
