Dr.C. Roberto Castellanos Pérez, founding delegate of the Territorial Delegation of CITMA in Havana.
Graduated as a Doctor of Medicine in 1969, in 1981 he completed postgraduate studies in Sweden, obtaining the degree of Master of Sciences and received the title of Doctor of Sciences in Havana.
Incorporated into the Association of Rebel Youth in 1960. In 1961 he participated in the Literacy Campaign as a literacy teacher in the Conrado Benítez brigade.
In 1962, when the UJC was established, he became part of it. That year he entered the Pre-Medical Course and was quartered during the October Crisis, officially joining the Revolutionary National Militias. During his studies in the Medicine program, he held different responsibilities in the classroom, course, and faculty, both in the FEU and in the UJC. He joined the PCC in 1970.
In January 1969, responding to the call of the Revolution, to work on research in Basic Sciences applied to Animal Health; he joined the National Center for Scientific Research (CNIC) where he completed the 6th year of the Medicine program.
He was a founder of the Clinical Biochemistry laboratories at CNIC, and participated in the creation of CENSA.
From 1976 to 1980 he directed the Science and Technology activities of the Ministry of Higher Education, being a founder of that organization. He was vice president of the National Commission for the granting of Scientific Categories in Cuba, from 1980 until 2015.
He wrote materials (articles and books) and taught courses in Cuba and other countries. He participated in national and international scientific events, and published articles in national and international journals in the field of Biochemistry.
He gave lectures on biotechnology and the Cuban health system at the annual meeting of the AAAS of the United States and at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies and at the School of Medicine at Harvard University.
From 1985 to 1995 he was Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba.
He was president of the Committee for Scientific-Technical Exchange Cuba–Japan, from its founding until 2015.
With the creation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment in 1994, he took on the position of Delegate of CITMA in the Province City of Havana, a position he held until 2015, when he retired due to health problems, but continued working as an advisor until his death.
For 20 years he had the responsibility for the direction, elaboration, and development of Scientific-Technical Programs in Agricultural Biotechnology, Biomedicine, and Medical-Pharmaceutical Industry. He was a founder of the Scientific Pole of the West.
He was selected as a Delegate to Municipal and Provincial Assemblies and recognized for the 25th Anniversary of the People's Power Bodies.
He was selected on several occasions as an outstanding cadre of CITMA, Provincial Vanguard and National Vanguard by the National Union of Science Workers.
For his merits as a revolutionary and as a scientist, he received several recognitions; highlighting the Medals for Literacy; for the 40th Anniversary of the Revolutionary Armed Forces; 18th Congress of the CTC and the 60th Anniversary of the Central Organization of Cuban Workers; the Manuel Fajardo Distinctions from the National Union of Health Workers; Rafael Ma. Mendive from the National Union of Education, Science and Sports Workers; and September 28 from the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution. The Seals from the V Congress of the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution; National Vanguard of the Science Union and for the 50 Years of the State Security Bodies.
In the year 2001 he was decorated with the Carlos J. Finlay Order, awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba to Distinguished Scientists, and was presented with the Statuette of the Giraldilla of Havana, the highest Distinction awarded by the Government of the City of Havana to Distinguished Personalities, as well as the Medal for the 485th Anniversary of the City. He possessed the Coin for the 50th Anniversary of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba and that of Industrial Property.
