Ricardo Riaño Jauma

He was born in La Habana. From a young age he participated in the university renewal movement. In 1932 he served time in Isla de Pinos for his activities against the Machado dictatorship.

In 1933 he became known as a writer. He went to Curazao, Dutch Antilles, as Cuba's consul (1935). He moved to Bogotá, Colombia in (1936). In 1937 he moved to the Department of Contentious and Legal Affairs of the State Department.

He worked in the offices of the UN and UNESCO. He was a co-founder of the Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba in 1939. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the magazines Cuba and URSS. He collaborated, among other press organs, with El País, La Prensa, El Mundo and the Revista Bimestre Cubana.

He directed Orbita in 1940. He participated in the United Nations conferences in Lake Success, 1949 and in the general conferences of UNESCO (Paris, 1952; Montevideo, 1954). He represented Cuba in 1955 before the Inter-American Cultural Council of the OAS.

Author of "José Ingenieros and his Literary Work" (1933), "My Trip to Colombia" (1937) and "Men of Three Worlds" (1955).
