Pedro Pérez Delgado

For a long time, Pedro Pérez Delgado (Pedrito to everyone) has been the pitching coach who has worked the longest with the team of the four letters. His extensive record of service displays 30 National Series, 14 Selective Series, five Olympics, one World Classic, 13 world championships, nine Intercontinental Cups, seven Pan American Games and six Central American Games.

On top of that, he managed nine times teams from the center of the Island, was crowned as manager in a World Junior Championship and participated in countless matches, including those held against professionals from Japan, Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States.

He participated in Professional Baseball in the United States from 1957 to 1961 with the Milwaukee Braves and Boston Red Sox. He was a pitcher in the Minor Leagues for the teams Wellsville, Stanford, Waterloo and Johnstown. Player for the Almendares team in the Cuban Professional Baseball League (1958-1959 season). He participated starting in 1962 as a coach in the 13-14 year-old categories.

From 1967 he participated in 30 National Series and 14 Selective Series in Cuba at the Superior Level. Pitching Coach for Team Cuba for 35 years, participating in:

1974: Participated in an exchange of experiences in training camps of the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs of the Major Leagues in the United States.
1990 and 2000: Exchange of experiences in the training fields of the Tokyo Giants and Yakult Swallows of the Japanese Major Leagues.
1997, 1998 and 1999: Technical assistance as pitching coach in the Baseball Association of Japan.
2006: Technical assistance as pitching coach in the Baseball Association of Panama.
2010 to 2015: Technical assistance as pitching coach in the Baseball Academy of the Campeche Pirates in Mexico.
He was selected as National Vanguard in 1991. He is currently retired from Sports.

As a young man, Pérez made a career in North America pitching for the organizations of the Milwaukee Braves and Boston Red Sox. With the uniforms of the teams Wellsville, Stanford, Waterloo and Johnstown, the Baseball-Reference site reports that he won 32 games and lost 30. Additionally, he had a contract with the Almendares of the Cuban Professional League.

Later he became a coach. He became an irreplaceable piece in the island selections, won everything that could be won in amateur baseball, and in more recent years left his mark in Mexico. "The Cuban coach is an open book for all those who wish to go far in pitching," wrote a journalist from that country in the digital magazine Béisbol Campechano.
