Legendary Pitcher Coach Pedro Pérez Passes Away

The Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) confirmed the death of Pedro Pérez and mourned the loss of the legendary pitcher coach.

"His extensive and fruitful work assures him an eternal place in the history of Cuban baseball, which thanks him and has the challenge of continuing the teachings he contributed to pitching. Our condolences to family and friends," wrote the FCB on its Twitter account.

According to Prensa Latina, he became an important pitcher coach after having pitched in professional baseball in the United States, and was known worldwide as Pedrito Pérez.

He was with the Caribbean team in its five Olympic podiums, in addition to almost 40 international baseball tournaments.

Furthermore, the news agency adds, he served as a trainer in 30 National Series, 14 Selective Series, one World Classic, 13 World Championships, nine Intercontinental Cups, seven Pan American Games and six Central American Games.

Pérez had been admitted since September to the Santa Clara hospital Arnaldo Milián, where he was recovering from an ischemic cerebral infarction, and also suffered from pneumonia.
