Pedrito
Popular Cuban singer who for several years was a member of the orchestra Los Van Van, today Director of his own group Pedrito Calvo y la Nueva Justicia.
Pedrito Calvo, or simply Pedrito, is a charismatic singer born in Guanabacoa who started in 1957 in an amateur television program; but it is not until the 1960s that he began his professional career in his father's orchestra.
From this moment on, other groups had him in their ranks: "La Riviera", "Los Jóvenes del filin", "La orquesta de Julio Valdés", until he arrived at "Juan Formell y Los Van Van", where he remained for around 30 years. Pedrito Calvo's time with Los Van Van marked an era.
Pedro Calvo has a charismatic personality, a unique style of singing, which often includes clever wordplay. He has a thick black and white mustache, with a unique and elegant personality and wears a hat at each performance that distinguishes him as a characteristic feature.
His ventures into film have demonstrated that he is not only capable of interpreting all genres of Cuban music, but can also perform comfortably in the performing arts as an actor. His qualities as a dancer are evident every time he takes the stage.
He has traveled throughout the country and audiences from diverse locations have danced and sung along to the songs he performs at each presentation. Among them stand out Canada, the United States, Venezuela, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia, Spain, France, Italy, to name just a few.
Pedrito has been a guest artist with Afro Cuban All Stars, by Juan de Marcos, NG La Banda, by José Luis Cortes. "El tosco" Pupy y Los que Son Son, La Charanga Habanera, by David Calzado La Ritmo Oriental, Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco and Sur Caribe by Ricardo Leiva. The Grammy Award with "Juan Formell y Los Van Van", has been the highest distinction received by this musician in his almost 40 years of artistic life.
In 2002 he decides to form his own orchestra and begin a new stage in his professional career. In this way he brings together a group of musicians and forms a group that under the name of La Justicia, accompany his work as a singer.
With a characteristic seal and rich Cuban flavor, "Pedrito Calvo y La Justicia", bursts onto the Cuban musical scene with a well-defined objective: to make everyone who hears him perform dance with delight through the most diverse genres of Cuban music, which is inserted, by its own right, into the international sphere, demonstrating that the rhythms of the island are accepted by all audiences.
One of the popular legends about Pedrito is the number of children he has. The singer recently confessed in an interview to being the father of 21 children.
