Outstanding Cuban soprano singer, recognized for her artistic and teaching work.
She began her musical studies at the Municipal Conservatory of La Habana, with professor Zoila Gálvez. Subsequently she obtained a scholarship to continue her higher education at the Institute for Vocalists of Bulgaria, under the direction of professor Jristo Bramkarov.
She has an extensive and varied repertoire, comprised of works by composers from diverse periods and styles, and the operas "Payaso" by Leoncavallo; "Madame Butterfly" by Puccini; "La Traviata" by Verdi; among others, stand out. For recitals she has a repertoire of contemporary Cuban music, by composers such as Hubert D´Blanck, Ernesto Lecuona, Harold Gramatges, Berroa, Garciaporrúa; as well as several cycles of works by Mozart, Puccini, Schubert, Verdi, Duskocil, Ginastera, Villa-Lobos, Grenet, among others.
She made her debut in 1963 in the television program "Viernes de Gala", and in the theater hall of the "Amadeo Roldán" Conservatory. Since then she has performed on the main stages of the capital, accompanied by prestigious symphonic and chamber ensembles, and by the Orchestra of the National Opera of Cuba.
With the National Concert Association she tours through various provinces and offers institutional cultural and political concerts and those in educational centers. She participates in the most significant cultural events of the nation. She performs in radio and television programs. She has recordings on the radio station CMBF, specialized in concert music. She combines her artistic work with teaching, as a singing professor at the Higher Institute of Art. She is a member of UNEAC.
Abroad in the 1960s she participated in the "Glorious Days of Katia Popova" Festival in Bulgaria. She has visited the German Democratic Republic, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia and Romania, and has given concerts with the symphonic orchestras of these countries. In Romania she performed at the Opera and Ballet Festival of Constanza.
She has made recordings for radio stations of the German Democratic Republic and in Bulgaria; also in this latter country she performed in the opera "La Traviata". In 1985 she toured Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union; in this country she performed the world premiere of the work "To an Assassinated Poet" by Cuban composer Jorge Garciaporrúa, dedicated to Federico García Lorca. In Czechoslovakia she performed at the "Smetana" Theater in the Czechoslovak capital with the opera "La Traviata". Her performances in this country included concerts at the "Cuban House of Culture" in Praga, where she premiered the cantata "Ancient America" by Cuban composer Harold Gramatges.
Throughout her artistic career she has received multiple recognition and laudatory reviews that highlight her artistic abilities.
Currently she resides in Mexico, where she dedicates herself to teaching and stage direction.
