Ovidio González, Cuban singer and actor based in Ecuador.
His professional career began in 1984 upon graduating from the Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana, with a degree in Music, specializing in singing. His discography consists of 8 CDs, dedicated primarily to Cuban and Caribbean music.
His album "En sendas distintas," from 2012, is a compilation of Ecuadorian pasillos that has received great public reception. His album "Mi propuesta" from 2005, on the EGREM label, was nominated for the Cubadisco, the most important music event in Cuba.
He has conducted several national and international tours in Cuba, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Portugal, Panama, and Chile. He represented his country at the Song Festival in Dresden in 1987, where he obtained the jury's second prize and the popularity award, the Días de la Prensa Festival in 1998, also in Germany, and at the Viña del Mar Festival in 1991.
In Cuba he shared the stage with major figures in the musical and theatrical culture of the island and performed in several theatrical productions and television series, combined with very extensive presence on Cuban radio, always maintaining the highest positions in popularity in the country.
Another area of his work has been teaching, which he began in Cuba in 1985 at the ISA and continued later in Ecuador from 1995 at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música, Municipality of Quito and Universidad de los Hemisferios.
In Ecuador his work as an actor has developed in various television series on Ecuavisa and Teleamazonas, fundamentally Pasado y confeso and Historias personales, in the feature films Los que se van, los que se quedan and Sé que vienen a matarme, and he has participated in the theatrical productions Art and Las Brujas de Salem with seasons at the Teatro del CCI, as well as in Gígolo a la carta. For the past 20 years he has directed and hosted the radio program La propuesta de Ovidio.
