Otto Félix Oñate

Otto Félix Oñate is a Cuban weightlifter from Guantánamo, competing in the 60-kilogram category. He won two bronze medals at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, establishing himself as one of Cuba's most promising weightlifters. In the years that followed, he stepped away from competition for three years to care for his ailing mother — a period he describes as one of personal rebirth. He returned to training in August 2025, and just four months later, stunned the sporting world by winning three gold medals at the Central American qualifier for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. His comeback was celebrated by Granma newspaper as "the novel of Otto Oñate." In April 2026, he represented Cuba at the Pan-American Senior Weightlifting Championship in Panama City, where he claimed three silver medals (snatch, clean & jerk, and total) in the 60 kg category — confirming his status as Cuba's leading weightlifter in the division and a top gold medal contender for Santo Domingo 2026.
