Ramón Cordobés de Beón

===BODY===
"As a swimmer, at 92 years old he won gold medals in 100 and 200 m breaststroke during the X World Championship in the Master category that took place in June 2004 in Italy, and bronze in the 200 freestyle".

Previously, he had become the oldest athlete to represent Cuba in an international event, when competing in a regional tournament in Costa Rica.

In addition to training preferably in open sea, Cordobés was a perpetual walker, had a good memory and did not smoke or drink alcoholic beverages.

Small and short in stature, Cordobés regretted not having rivals in Cuba, which forced him to compete against the clock, something that seemed to him "a bit boring".

A civil engineer by profession, "he always said that when his last moment in life arrived he would prefer to die swimming or have his ashes scattered in the sea", which is why the latter was carried out in waters off western Havana.

Cordobés, who began swimming at age 14, founded the swimming club "Juventud Acumulada" in 1998 and held several distinctions such as the Mártires de Barbados medal and the Order of Sports Merit.
