Cuban professional volleyball player naturalized as Italian.1 He plays the position of receiver/attacker for Lube Macerata and the Italian national team.
After several years with the Cuban team Orientales de Santiago de Cuba, in the summer of 2004 he moved to Russia to play for VK Ural Ufa, where he played until August 2006 when he tested positive in an anti-doping control conducted at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
He moved to Italy where he trained with Trentino Volley without being able to play in official matches until November 2008. However, the Cuban Federation did not grant the necessary transfer to play in Italy and he had to wait until the International Federation clarified his situation in August 2009.
In the Trentino team, alongside Bulgarian Matej Kazijski, he formed a pair of lethal attackers and won the Italian Cup, Champions League, and Club World Championship in his first season. In the 2010/2011 season he won his first Italian Championship along with another Champions League and another Club World Championship, being named MVP in both international competitions.
On October 19, 2012 he won his fourth Club World Championship and his third MVP title.
In summer 2013 he left Trentino Volley, which was in economic crisis, signing with Turkish Halkbank Ankara; in two seasons he won one championship, two cups, and two Turkish super cups.
In the 2015/2016 season he signed for Lube Macerata.
With the Cuban national team he won the silver medal at the 2003 Pan American Games and the bronze medal in the 2005 Volleyball World League; in 2006 he left the Cuban national team due to problems with the federation. After being naturalized as Italian in September 2010, he was able to represent Italy in competitions between national teams once he received FIVB permission: on August 3, 2015 he was selected by Italy's coach Blengini and was included in the squad for the Japan World Cup. He made his debut in a friendly match against Argentina on August 27, 2015, scoring 10 points in the final 3-0 victory for the Italian team; his official debut was against Canada on the opening day of the World Cup. He finished the competition winning the silver medal and being selected for the All-Star team. In October he led Italy to the bronze medal at the European Championship disputed between Bulgaria and Italy and in summer 2016 to the silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
