Orestes Lois Falcón

He was born in Palmira, Las Villas. He developed his vocal studies with José Ojeda until 1961. He later expanded them with Ana Talmaceanu and at the Central Vocal Institute of Sofía, Bulgaria, with Jristo Brambarov, between 1964-1966.

He made his debut in 1961 performing a small role in Doña Francisquita, by Vives and shortly after performed the title role in Gounod's opera, Fausto, at the Amadeo Roldán theater.

Founding member of the National Lyric Theater of Cuba, he was part of the casts of its first performances, with the titles Luisa Fernanda (Javier), The Merry Widow (Rosillón) and The Secret Marriage (Paolino).

His study trip to Europe culminated with a series of performances in Bulgaria, Lithuania, Ukraine and Czechoslovakia, in the leading roles of Rigoletto and The Barber of Seville. Upon his return he rejoined the company where he remained as the leading figure until the 1980s.

Don Pasquale, La traviata, La bohème, Madama Butterfly, Lucia di Lammermoor, The Clowns (Beppe), constitute other titles of his repertoire, always approached with accomplished interpretations, which also encompassed national authors: Patria, by H. de Blanck; The Slave, by J. Mauri and, above all, Cecilia Valdés, with which he toured Central Europe, in 1974.
