Olga María Piero is a Cuban physician, specialist in Pathological Anatomy, Professor of Merit and Doctor of Science. She obtained her specialty with a thesis on autoimmune thyroiditis.
Olga completed her early studies through high school in Sciences and Letters at the Edison Institute in Víbora; she enrolled in the Medical degree program in 1954, in the third year of her studies, she worked as a Medical student, alternating between the First Aid Station of Mantilla and the "Juan Ruiz Serna" Asylum, where she performed nursing duties.
She married in 1962 to Dr. Sergio Rabell Hernández. From 1962 to 1963, she taught as a non-graduated Instructor of Pathological Anatomy until that last year when she graduated as a physician from the University of Havana and began as a graduated Instructor of the Pathological Anatomy specialty.
She completed a vertical internship at the Manuel Piti Fajardo Hospital. From 1978 to 1979, she studied in Berlin, where she obtained the scientific degree of Candidate for Doctor of Science.
She began her professional career at the Provincial Hospital of Santiago de Cuba as Department Head, serving simultaneously as Regional Director and head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy, until 1967; after 2 years she returned to Havana. In the capital, she held the position of Head of the Pathological Anatomy Service at "Covadonga", today Salvador Allende Hospital.
In 1971 she transferred to the Department of Pathology at the General Calixto García University Hospital. From 1972 to 1973 she taught courses to Cytology technicians, graduates at the Oncological Hospital (INOR) and in 1972 in Postgraduate courses on gastroenterological Pathology at the Institute of Gastroenterology of Havana.
She holds the Special Teaching Category of Professor of Merit of the Superior Institute of Medical Sciences of Havana since December 22, 2008. Since 1998 to the present, she has served as a member of the Tribunal for the Promotion of Scientific Degrees in Diagnostic Methods.
She taught Pathological Anatomy at Aquino University in La Paz, Bolivia (2004-2005), and at the Technical University of Ambato in Ecuador (2005-2007).
