The Trio Hermanas Lago became known on November 17, 1932 during an amateur show held at the Teatro Nacional de La Habana (today Gran Teatro de La Habana) in which it won first prize. It was initially made up of Cristina Eustaquia Lago Muela (1919-1974), first voice and accompanying guitar; Esperanza Lago Muela (1921-1954), second voice and maracas; and Inocenta Graciela de la Caridad Lago Muela (1918-1996), mandolin, guitar, voice and musical arrangements.
