Nancy Casanova Rodríguez

Distinguished pianist and professor. She began her musical studies with professor Sara Estrada, continuing at the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán with the distinguished professor Luis González Rojas until 1964 when she went to Poland to pursue higher education for five years. As a prize for first place obtained in a competition for young pianists convened by the Consejo Nacional de Cultura de Cuba.

In Poland she studied at the Academia Federico Chopin in Warsaw with pianist and pedagogue Margerita Trombini-Kazuro. She also studied with Natalia Hornowska, dean of the Piano Faculty of that Academy and contemporary music with Andrzej Dutkiewicz.

Upon completing her studies in 1969 she returns to Cuba where she begins her professional career as a concert pianist offering recitals and concerts while dedicating part of her time to teaching, first at the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán and the Escuela Nacional de Arte and, currently at the Faculty of Music of the Instituto Superior de Arte de Cuba.

As a pianist she stands out for her great sensitivity, creativity and technical mastery.

Her first performance was with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional performing Chopin's Concerto No.1 conducted by maestro Félix Guerrero. Shortly after she performed Schumann's under the direction of Manuel Duchesne Cuzán. She has also offered concerts in Cuba under the direction of Sánchez Ferrer and other foreign conductors.

She has offered concerts in Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Poland, Yugoslavia and Russia. In Cuba she performs as a recitalist throughout the country, performing as a soloist, with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional, on several occasions.

She is a professor at the School of Music of the Escuela Nacional de Arte. Currently she works as a professor in the Piano Chair of the Faculty of Music of the Instituto Superior de Arte.
